Open Letter to Hacker
Dear Hacker,
It was a socking experience to have been hacked. Our website content has been whipped out and replaced with dark background and white blinking text saying, “You have been hacked by…”
We never thought that we will be hacked. We used to hear about hacking, about people getting hacked, but we never experience that first hand. But you helped us experience what it feels like be hacked. Thank you for that.
What we do not understand is why you hack us? We do not have anything valuable for you to take. We only have text content of blog posts. Why do you hack? is it for the shake of it or is it a habit? What do you gain by hacking us? Experience? Ego boasting? Something to brag to your friends? What do you get out of it?
What you might not understand is that, you have hurt people you hacked and potentially other people related to them as well. Here are some example
- You wasted people’s time by deleting their content. They have to recreate the content again which takes time.
- You make people feel angry, frustrated by having to redo thing that they have spent time on.
- You do not know how much time is valuable to someone. The person might need to take care of their aging parents or their sick kids, and you just made their life more difficult.
- You might have kill someone indirectly. If your hacking action affects emergency department at a hospital, you could potentially, limited the ability of the doctors to do their job property and therefore might not be able to save somebody’s life. And what could happen is that someone in that emergency could be your love ones, your wife, your kids, your relative or friends. It could be your love one’s life who couldn’t be saved because of your action. Think about that.
OK, hope you understand your action has huge negative consequences in those context.
Peace,
